This October, I will be honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month by running the 2024 Chicago Marathon for Run DV Out of Town!
This is a cause I hold close to my heart and am honored to be a part of. The impact of domestic violence is not often something that can easily be left in the past, but something survivors have to work through day by day. In 2023, it was reported that about 41% of women and 26% of men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner that resulted in an intimate partner violence-related impact.
As a graduate student pursuing the mental health field and hoping to devote my career advocating and working with trauma patients clinically and through trauma-focused research, I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to lace up my shoes on October 13 and run 26.2 miles to support real change.
