Andrew Wachter's 2024 Chicago Marathon Fundraiser
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
When I interned at the Cook County State Attorney's Office in their Domestic Violence Division, every day I saw survivors of domestic violence drop charges against their abuser to return back to the same dangerous life that put their abusive partners in front of a judge.
Sadly, most of the abused continue to go back to their abusers again and again. On average it takes 7 attempts for survivors to leave their abuser and stay seperated for good. The psychological dependency individuals can have to their violent partners is wicked and sometimes impossible to break.
I am lucky that I survived domestic abuse. I was stabbed, hospitalized, almost lost half the blood in my body, and I still went back to my partner for months after that until I finally broke free. That freedom finally gave me the opportunity to drastically change my life so I can live for myself instead of living solely for the benefit of my abuser.
The change in my life has been vibrant and freeing, and I hope to help anyone I possibly can to be free.
So now, I'm running the Chicago Marathon to support survivors of domestic violence. You can help me reach my fundraising goal today by making a gift.
I have decided to team up with Team Run DV Out of Town (part of The Network) to help raise funds and continue helping them provide awareness to stop and prevent Domestic Violence. The Network envisions an end to our society’s tolerance of gender-based violence. The Network is a group of 40+ member organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by gender-based violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and connecting community members with direct service providers. We lead collaborative work to imagine and realize radical ways to respond to and end gender-based violence, focusing on the intersections between systemic violence and gender-based violence.
Donations enable advocates and this wonderful organization which is changing lives.
